Image: The National Academy of Inventors has selected three University of Georgia faculty as 2022 NAI Senior members, including Dr. Michael Adang, a professor of biochemistry, molecular biology and entomology in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. He is a leading researcher in employing Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxins to control pests. His laboratory was the first to discover a Bt toxin receptor in insects, and his work was integral to developing a method to optimize Bt gene expression in plants. This optimization led to varieties of corn and cotton that can resist insects without pesticides. Throughout his career, Adang has produced 20 invention disclosures, received 24 U.S. patents and authored more than 100 research articles. Read more about Dr. Adang's election here.
