A recent graduate of the biochemistry and molecular biology department has been named to the 2018 Scholar All-America First Team in swimming and diving.

Patrick Humphreys, a swimmer and 2018 graduate of the department, was among 22 Georgia Bulldog swimmers and divers to earn the distinction. Humphreys conducted research under Eileen Kennedy of pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences.

In order to receive the honor, given by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America, students must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and competed at their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, according to georgiadogs.com.

Humphreys received a letter from university president Jere W. Morehead congratulating him on the honor.

"Your success as a student-athlete at UGA exemplifies your outstanding commitment to excellence both in and out of the classroom," Morehead wrote.
